Life Change and New Career

Three days left at La-Z-Boy and I am feeling a little bittersweet. It has been a long a tedious three and half years filled with ups and downs. The joys are what I will bring with me and the rest I will leave behind. I have learned a great deal from my time but it is time to part ways.
Am I going in the right direction? Who knows. All I can do is try my best and roll with the punches. Of course I am filled with anxiety as I start out in a new direction, a field I know very little about, in a position I have never worked before. It will be a learning curve but it is worth it.
For the past 5 years I have been working a retail based schedule. Some people work this schedule all there lives and I commend them for their ability to handle it. The retail life is not for me though. It takes a lot of time away from family and friends and the strain on myself especially has been overwhelming and no longer tolerable. I value my time with my family and my new husband and the world I was working in before did not mesh with those values.
Now I will be working a 8-5 Monday thru Friday job that allows me to come home at a reasonable time at night, have weekends off and celebrate holidays with my family. It is not in my field but there are sacrifices we have to make to obtain the desired lifestyle we want.
Now that I will not be tied to a company where I could not work on design project outside of my work you will be hearing more from me. I cannot give up design which leaves this blog as my main outlet for the time being. That being said, I would like to thank all of my readers for your patronage to my blog, and I hope you will continue to read and follow. I hope I can keep you interested and help you learn something new about the world of design.

New Job: Back into the Design World at Last!!!

After a month and a half of searching and interviews I have finally landed a job! Not only did I find a job it is a job where I can use my talents and my education.

For those of you who do not know, I have a degree from Ohio State University in Textiles and Clothing with a focus in Interior Design. My first job out of college was with Dillard's in the home store and slowly I have been moving away from my love and passion of design. I ended up in an administrative assistant position that didn't work out.

My being let go from this position was a blessing in disguise. Not only did it give me a wake up call to the way the world works but it led me to a position that I am so excited to start. I will be working as a sales associate at La-Z-Boy. I will be back into the design business. Although I will not be working as a designer per say I can actually use my degree and knowledge in this position. There is also room within this company to move into an in store designer position( yes La-Z-Boy carries in store designer, I had no idea.)

I have a week and a half till I start my training and I cannot wait. I feel like a giddy school girl. Of course there are drawbacks to a sales position, like working weekends and working till 9 pm some nights, but it will be worth it.

I have been going through all my industry magazines and my text books, organizing everything so that I can access all my resources and a moments notice. Which brings me to my next thought; I will be starting to blog more about design.

Lately my bog has been dominate by my crocheting and has barely held any topics about design, my first love. This will change. Although I still love my crocheting and will keep at my Etsy Shop, I will no longer make it my only concentration. I think I put crocheting first and not design. Now I have a renewal of my design passion and have discovered that crocheting is more of a hobby and a side business. My career is design.

It took me a while to figure this out and I think I have more clarity in my life becasue of it. Crocheting will always be there, like a comforting security blanket. But I need to put more energy in my design.

Along with changes to the topics in my blog, look for changes in my Etsy shop. Interior Design will be my main focus in all that I do. I would like to offer design news, advice and answer your questions. Please feel free to comment on my blog and ask my advice on projects. Also once I start at La-Z-Boy I will post my store location and invite all of you to come shop with me!

I am so happy right now I can hardly hold it in! I hope everyone finds what makes them happy!
Have a Wonderful Day!

Getting Ready for the New Year

After everything that has happened over the past few days and months I have decided to get serious about my crochet and design business. While I am looking for a new job I am going to be organizing myself in a way that I can pay off my loans and credit cards and start saving money in order to start my own business.

This will take me some time to achieve but with some persistence and a lot of organization I will achieve my goal. In the next week I plan to come up with a list of things that I will need to get done in order to make this vision possible.

I have already started by downloading a free version of Quick Books. I will be using this for all my book keeping now, personal and business. This way I can see everything I am spending and everything I owe. Starting from today I will be as organized as I should be in order to operate a business.

The next step is to do a full inventory of my Etsy Shop. I will be having a sale after Christmas to decrease this inventory and after the sale I will close my shop and have a full count of all items for 2009.

During this process I will have to look for a new job to support myself in the mean time. Quite honestly I am tired of looking for a job and am going to try to find something that may not be the most rewarding, but will pay the bills.

In the next couple days look for more post on my full list of things to complete, my business plan and hopefully my new job!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

New Job

It has definitely been a while since I have last written and a lot has happened. I finally got a new job. I am work as an administrative assistant for the Ohio College of Massotherapy( Massage Therapy). So far I am enjoying myself. It is a lot more work than Dillard's. The schedule is better. I finally have weekends off. The only draw back is that it is another step away from design.

As I started this job I thought it would be a way to make more money, pay off my loans, and learn more about a business. I do find myself missing design and wishing I could pay off my debt enough to really start my own business.

Etsy is doing well for me in the later part of the year. My sales have tripled since last year and I am ready for more.

Right now my current project is my bf's scarf. It is taking me a little longer than I had hoped, but it should be done soon.

One I get settled with my new job and schedule I hope to dedicate more time to Etsy and my crocheting, design and photography.
