Happy Earth Day! Did you know you can Green your LaZBoy?!

In honor of Earth Day I wanted to inform you of a new line of green furniture available at La-Z-Boy. As many people who have owned a La-Z-Boy recliner can attest to, they last a long time as long as 20 years in some cases. They are built to last, with a engineered hardwood four sided frame to a mechanism and part made from steel. Not only are these elements apparent in their recliners but also in our full line of furniture. Part of being sustainable is the ability to last for years to come.

Another part of being sustainable is the impact of the environment. La-Z-Boy recently introduced two ways to make their furniture more eco-friendly. You can custom your furniture with either Eco-Comfort cushions or Eco-Comfort fabrics, or both!

The new line of Eco-Comfort fabric line is full of fun patterns and great solids. Tested and approved by Oeko-Tex, the world’s definitive ecological certification process, our EcoComfort fabrics utilize environmentally friendly materials. As a matter of fact, our EcoSuede fabric actually utilizes the plastic of one recycled water bottle for each yard of fabric, reducing waste and pollution.

The Eco-Comfort cushions are made from soybeans. The are a great eco-friendly product and they are just as comfortable as our traditional cushions. And because they are created from soy, which is a renewable resource, they leave a smaller environmental footprint.

If you like to see more styles that can be upgraded to Eco-Comfort please contact me or visit me at the La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery in Montrose! Ask for Alison!

What makes your shop eco-friendly or organic based?
So far I've sold three sets of eco-friendly dish cloths. The cloths are made of cotton, and are around the size of sponges. They're great because you simply throw them in the wash when they need a cleaning themselves and they're ready for another round of dishes! I also sell knitted ipod socks made from 100% recycled yarns. I just started making bowls out of recycled plastic bags as well, which can be used to hold random small items around the house.

What do you do everyday that is green?
Well, my home is powered by 100% sustainable energy. (Awesome Kate!) I walk/ride my bike wherever possible which is fairly easy b/c of my location. I use earth friendly cleaning materials, as well as organic soaps and shampoos whenever I can. When I eat meat I make a point to go for the organic stuff so that it's free of hormones and hasn't had antibiotics used on it. Same goes for veggies: I buy organic whenever I can afford it! Recycling is another thing I live for. Any and everything that crosses my path and can be recycled WILL be recycled. I mean, the list goes on and on. I'm obsessed with reducing my impact on the planet immensely.

Super Use

On the left of this blog you will see a growing list of links that are associated with Design to Save the World. I would like to explain the Superuse link a little more as it is a great resource for designers and all those interested in recycling.

Superuse is a site where individuals can share ideal, projects and new information in the design world. There are designers, students, architects and various other people interested in re-usable design posting and sharing on this site.

A user can post articles for others to view, vote and comment on. It is a portal for sharing information, which is one of my passions in life. New ideas need to be scene in order to become great ideas in the mind of the public. This site I believe helps push these ideas out there.

Ideas need to be shared in order to be realized. In the growing industry of design, pushing these ideas to the forefront is the key for making a difference. A resource such as this is great for everyone to participate in and get something out of in return.

Please take a look and pass it on!
