Where The H* Have I Been?

Recently my fiance and I purchased a house, and for the past month or so we have been working on fixing it up before we move in. This has been a great practical learning experience for the both of us.

The house was built in 1918 and with age comes some cosmetic and internal issues. The house is all brick and has a great foundation but the inners are going. Of course we did find out about that until we started tearing things up which I have heard about and never processed it happening to me. But it did.

When we tore up the carpet we found a wonderful layer of linoleum. When we tore up the linoleum we found a wonderful layer of paint on top of hard wood floors. I guess renovation to an old house is like peeling away layers to a tree. Layers that have been built up over the years, good years and bad.

We had so many grand ideas for the house, well I should say I had so many grand ideas. My fiancé is a little more realistic than I am. So I had to forgo refinishing the hard wood floors and select carpeting instead. Carpet although not as classic as hardwood is still a viable choice and will serve it's purpose for a couple years(5, 10, 20 years) till we have adequate funds to make hardwood a reality.

I hope to have some before, during and after photos for y'all. That way you can see where we came from, the problems we encountered and our solutions to the problem. I hope to use this house as a learning experience for myself as well as a tool to help all of you with your own design dilemmas.

I bet you guys have been busy! My boyfriend and his family recently "flipped" his mother's old house so they could put it on the market. One of the troubles we came across was the fact that the wallpaper was practically glued to the wall in the bathroom. So no matter what we did, we had to chip away at it instead of being able to just pull it away in strips. It was a job! Best of luck with your home!
